Description of the Use Case
Robotics automation revolutionizes industrial processes by combining intelligent robots with state-of-the-art control systems, delivering unmatched efficiency, safety, and flexibility.
In this project, our goal was to automate the depalletizing of wooden pallets stacked with medical boxes. Using a NACHI Pick & Place robot integrated with a Siemens ET200SP Safety PLC via PROFIsafe, we created a seamless and reliable workflow for transferring boxes onto a conveyor belt.
The customer choosed SALZ Automation because of our deep expertise in standardized, scalable automation solutions and our commitment to future-proof engineering. Our object-oriented programming (OOP) approach ensures that robot functions can be easily reused and adapted for new projects, while our rigorous implementation of safety standards guarantees reliarable operation.
Performance Requirements
The task was to ensure reliable and safe communication between the robot and the control system.
Requirement
The requirement was a seamless integration of the NACHI robot with the Siemens ET200SP Safety PLC via PROFINET and PROFIsafe.
The task was a standardization and reusability of robot functions.
Requirement
The requirement was to develop modular, object-oriented software for flexible and future-proof automation solutions.
The task was to implement all safety-relevant functions including camera system integration.
Requirement
The requirement was to integrate emergency stop, safety doors and workpiece detection to ensure maximum safety and process reliability.
Individual Steps of the Project
Object-oriented programming for scalable robot control
Communication
The connection between the robot arm and the Siemens ET200SP CPU is established via the Nachi Profinet interface. The hardware identifier enables interaction via byte values directly with the NACHI robot.
Functional Safety
Implementation of all required safety standards with Step7 Safety, e.g. emergency stop (ESTOP FB), safety doors (SFDOOR FB) and light curtains.
Modular process
The process is state-based programmed - different modules of the robot are specifically controlled depending on the task.
Camera system
A camera system is integrated via S7 communication, which recognizes workpieces and controls the robot in a targeted manner. A feedback bit signals when the camera has completed the process, and emergency stop, safety doors and workpiece detection are integrated to ensure maximum safety and process reliability.
Result
The system was successfully commissioned and met all the requirements for safe and efficient automation of the depalletizing process. Predictive maintenance and the reduction of downtimes have further optimized operations.
The solution is characterized by its reliability and future-proofing and provides a solid foundation for further expansion and reuse in similar projects.
