Use cases driving efficiency and innovation

Precise resource management plays a crucial role in modern agricultural and greenhouse facilities. A robust, industrial-grade SALZ Automation control and I/O system was used for an automated irrigation solution, which records and evaluates humidity values, environmental data, and water consumption in real time.

Our task was to implement a fully networked, maintenance-free solution that intelligently processes sensor data, automatically controls irrigation cycles, and makes them transparently viewable at any time via browser-based visualization. The result is efficient, sustainable water management - fully integrated, scalable, and consistently digitized.

In the dynamic production environment of brake disc manufacturer Eurac Lemgo, a robust, IP65-protected SALZ Automation industrial panel PC running Windows 11 IoT was installed directly on an electric forklift truck. It records the weight and fill level of brake discs in real time to optimize material flow.

Our task was to create a seamless connection between production and logistics by combining browser-based applications and visualization via Profinet on one device and ensuring a stable Wi-Fi connection for continuous real-time data communication.

This use case demonstrates how SALZ Automation’s open control platform, combined with logiccloud’s containerized virtual PLC solution, is transforming industrial automation. Multiple independent PLC instances run as containers on a single hardware platform, each allocated dedicated resources, remotely accessible, and managed through an intuitive web interface.

This approach by logiccloud AG simplifies administration, scalability, and reliability of automation projects. Engineers can quickly download the software, create containers in minutes, and securely manage all operations via a browser. Physical devices communicate seamlessly with virtual devices created in the logiccloud IDE and connected to SALZ Controllers.

In an industrial environment, a panel PC should not only visualize and control process data, but also make system services such as updates, logs and display settings manageable - directly via a user-friendly SCADA interface.

In this project, our task was to develop a secure Linux-based Panel PC and integrate SCADA software with a Microbrowser for real-time monitoring. The customer selected SALZ Automation for our proven expertise in embedded Linux, secure update mechanisms, and scalable SCADA integration.

Robotics automation meets smart engineering: In this project, we automated the depalletizing of medical boxes using a NACHI robot and Safety PLC. 

The customer chose SALZ Automation because of our experience with scalable, standards-based automation. With object-oriented programming and strict adherence to safety standards, we delivered a flexible, future-proof solution that ensures reliable and reusable robot functions.

USE CASE

Drones now handle tasks that were once costly, time-consuming, or unsafe. Our customer, an unmanned aerial systems specialist, offers efficient solutions for surveying, mapping, and inspecting industrial plants with high automation for fast, safe, and cost-effective execution.

In this case, drones monitor a goods handling area, needing automated landing and loading facilities. The customer relied on SALZ Automation’s expertise in OPC UA, Codesys, and EtherCAT-based systems to ensure a secure, autonomous operation.

USE CASE

A carousel storage network efficiently handles roll-based products like pipes or carpets, optimizing space and accessibility. Items are managed by batch or serial numbers through integration with an ERP system for seamless data exchange.

To enhance storage management, our customer implemented SALZ Automation’s advanced control technology. The system uses Docker containers for software components like Codesys (control), Python (ERP communication), and Node-RED (process monitoring). SALZ Automation components, including remote I/Os, safety modules, relays, and panel PCs, complete the solution.
